Review: Tawa Tales

Tawa Tales, a new delivery chain offering dishes from different regions and cuisines across the country right to your doorstep, has recently started operations in Gurgaon. We recently ordered a few dishes from the outlet for tasting, and we were happy with the on-time delivery and their neat packaging. They also added a hand-written postcard in the bag, which was a really cute element.tawa1The Irani Café Keema Masala had soft and fresh pao with flavorful and spicy mutton keema with green peas. Though the keema was really tasty, there was too less of it, and we could hardly taste the flavors through all that pao.

We also went for a Grill Meal which had Tandoori Mushrooms, Korma Sauce, and Pulao. The platter was packed very nicely and consisted of button mushroom caps filled with gooey cheese, coated with a spicy marinade and chargrilled to perfection. The korma sauce was thick, creamy, and flavorsome, and the pulao was simple and home-style, with the vegetables still having a nice bite to them.tawa2The Almond and Pistachio Milk was nicely made, and the Fig and Walnut Phirni came in a sakora which imparted a nice earthy flavor, had a nice texture, and was topped with small pieces of walnuts, figs, and some threads of saffron.tawa3Overall, a nice place to order from when you want to try something different.

Review: Dim Sum Festival at Radisson Blu Hotel, Dwarka

Review: Dim Sum Festival at Radisson Blu Hotel, Dwarka

Rice, the oriental restaurant at Radisson Blu Hotel New Delhi Dwarka is famous for its authentic Chinese cuisine, and right now is the perfect time to drop in for a visit, as they are currently hosting a Dim sum festival with some delicious and unique dim sums on offer. They have tried to use different ingredients such as wheat, ragi, buckwheat, etc. to create some amazing dim sums.

The restaurant is done up in a beautiful manner- with romantic lighting, gold accents, and soothing Asian music. The service is exceptional- as is expected from the brand, and the overall experience was superb.

We started off with a couple of mocktails- the Fruit Punch, which had a mix of pineapple juice, mango juice, orange juice, strawberry crush, and vanilla ice cream, was thick, creamy, and filling, and the Green Hornet, a spicy drink made with green chilies and mint muddled with sprite was spicy and refreshing.rice3We began our meal with a Chicken Dumpling Soup, which had a clear, fragrant, and light broth with a strong garlic flavor, and vegetables cooked al dente. The dumplings in the soup were really nicely made as well.

We were then served the dim sum menu, along with four delectable dips.

The vegetarian menu had Crystal Mushroom, which was filled with diced shitake mushroom and coriander root; Vegetable Pomegranate, which was filled with celery, carrot, and chives in a cherry wine sauce, topped with pomegranate seeds; Spicy Jade, which was filled with chopped snow peas, red bell pepper, water chestnut, and shitake mushroom and a spicy tom yum broth; Spinach Corn, a delicately flavored one with American corn, spinach, tossed with garlic and sesame oil; and Tofu with Bamboo Shoot and Water Chestnuts, filled with small diced fresh farm tofu, bamboo shoot, and water chestnut coated with ragi flour.rice4The non-veg menu had Prawns Hargaw, which had prawns mince with bamboo shoot, asparagus, potato starch, and wheat starch; Chicken Chili Oil, a lovely dim sum with minced chicken, water chestnut and coriander, served with a chili vinegar oil; Chicken Half Moon Pocket, a buckwheat flour dim sum stuffed with minced chicken marinated with cheese and scallion; Pan Seared Lamb Dim sum, having lamb mince and scallion marinated with oyster sauce served pan-fried; and Steamed Fish Ball, diced fish marinated with scallion, ginger, shallots, and oyster sauce in a super thin covering.rice5We ended this delicious meal with some equally well-made desserts. The Date Pancakes consisted of strips of dates wrapped in wonton skin, deep fried to a crisp and served with vanilla ice cream, and the

Homemade Coconut and Jaggery Ice Cream had the perfect blend of flavors, and was absolutely delicious.rice6This place definitely warrants a visit, and the innovation they have done with the different flours for the dim sums is something worth trying!

Review: Midnight Hunger Hub

Review: Midnight Hunger Hub

For those late night cravings, Midnight Hunger Hub provides the perfection solution. They operate multiple outlets across Delhi, and they deliver food from 8 p.m. all the way till 3 a.m.

We recently ordered a couple of items from the place:

The Grilled Gardener Veg Pizza was topped with grilled zucchini, American corn, bell peppers, onions, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, black olives and mozzarella. And the Fire in the Hole Pizza was topped with diced grilled chicken tossed in peri peri sauce, onions, black olives, cheddar and mozzarella. Both the pizzas were topped generously, were large in size, and had a nice, thin and crisp crust. The toppings on the veg pizza were cooked al dente and still had a nice freshness and crunch to them.mhh1The Pesto Pasta Veg had a creamy sauce which was flavorsome, but we found the pasta to be a tad over-sauced and mushy. The pasta was sent along with a couple of slices of garlic bread.

The Falafel Veggie Wrap had a thin covering and was filled generously with pieces of falafel, mixed with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers, and a nice, creamy dressing.mhh2Overall, the place has tasty food, generous portions, nice packaging, and reasonable prices.

Review: Coffee Bond

Review: Coffee Bond

Coffee Bond has opened up its second, and much larger outlet at GK 1 M-block market, and the lovely wooden interiors with large windows and low-rise wooden benches and seats remind you of lovely cafes you’d find in the hills. And their large tea and coffee section is just amazing for all those who cannot get through the day without a dose of caffeine.coffeebond1We visited the café on a sunny weekend afternoon, and the sunlight filtering in made the café look even better. The coffee bar at the corner looks super cool, and they also have on sale some coffee machines, coffee beans, and even offer chocolate-making and latte art workshops.coffeebond2We started off with the Pour Over, which is a manual brew, delicate and smooth black coffee. We loved the way it was served, on a wooden plank with jaggery, white sugar, and water, so one can customize the coffee according to their taste. We also tried the Flat White, which had espresso, textured milk, and warm water, and was a strong, smooth coffee, and the Bond Hot Chocolate, which had 100% pure cacao, mascarpone, and textured milk, which had a lovely bitter chocolate flavor.coffeebond3For food, we started with the Superfood Bowl, which was a delightful bowl filled with some of the healthiest ingredients- red rice, avocado, kale, beetroot, carrot, falafel, and hummus- perfect for health freaks. Each element on the dish was perfectly executed- the red rice was fluffy and light, the kale was crisp and fresh, the falafel were nicely made, and the flavorsome, smooth hummus tied all the ingredients together. A must-have dish here!

Next, we went with the Smashed Avocado, which had smashed avocado flavored delicately, topped with a little bit of sharp feta cheese. Both these elements worked well together, and both flavors came through. The dish was served with house-made fresh sourdough bread and a rocket salad dressed with balsamic vinegar. A lovely little snack to munch on as you converse over some amazing coffee.

Next up, we had the Egyptian Omelette, which had a nicely made, fluffy and light omelette topped with Egyptian dukkah spice blend, served with a sourdough bread slice and some fresh and zingy pesto made in-house.

The Fettucine was cooked al dente and tossed with lots of garlic, extra virgin olive oil, and chili flakes- a delightful and light dish.coffeebond4We ended our healthy, yet delicious meal with a couple of (relatively) healthy sweet dishes. The Cocoa Chia Pudding had homemade chia pudding, sweetened very lightly, and served with cocoa powder and fresh fruits. The Ricotta Blueberry Hotcake had light and fluffy ricotta and blueberry hotcakes topped with strawberries, nuts, seeds, and organic honey. The hotcakes had a lovely texture, and the fresh blueberries and strawberries added a nice freshness to the dish. This is something that should definitely be tried here.coffeebond5Overall, though the food is a bit on the pricey side, it is well worth the money in terms of the ingredients used and the taste. However, the service could definitely be improved a bit. This place is highly recommended, especially for all those who love their coffee, and who want to eat healthy.

Review: Me Kong Bowl

Review: Me Kong Bowl

Me Kong Bowl offers some delicious Asian food, delivered to the comfort of your homes. I recently ordered-in a few dishes, and was really happy with all the food. The delivery came on time, and the colorful boxes in which the food was packed were super cute.mekongbowl1The Chicken Dak Bulgogi had juicy chicken chunks cooked in Korean barbeque-style with bell peppers, carrots, and zucchini. The grill marks on the chicken looked great, and the chicken had a nice smoky flavor. The sauce coated on the chicken was tangy and delicious.

The Chicken Thukpa had chicken chunks and thin noodles, in a thick broth with crunchy vegetables, but the broth could have done with a touch more robustness in the flavor.

They also have the DIY concept wherein you can create your own bowl. I went with the chili garlic noodles with chicken, mushrooms, pak choi, and baby corn in honey sriracha sauce. I liked the way they had packed the dish- the chicken and the gravy came in a separate bowl, and the noodles can in another bowl, topped with the chosen vegetables. This ensured the noodles don’t get soggy and over-drenched in sauce, and the vegetables still retained their texture. The chicken dish had a lovely sweet-spicy sauce, and the noodles were really nicely made.mekongbowl2This place can definitely be tried for times when you’re craving some Asian food.

Review: Bbq Factory

Review: Bbq Factory

BBQ Factory offers the buffet concept with starters served on live grills on the table. But what’s really cool about the restaurant is that they offer different types of buffets- so you can go for one without starters, or can vary the size of your meal in terms of number of starters, number of main courses, etc. The restaurant also has a Kid’s Zone where children can play while you enjoy your meal.

We went for the Titanic dinner buffet which is their most lavish one, and we started with the live chaat counter, which had gol gappe and papdi chaat. The papdi chaat was nice and crunchy, but the water for the gol gappe was a bit too salty. The live station also had some steamed momos, which we relished with the spicy chutney. The soup counter had Tomato Basil and Lemon Coriander Soups, which were perfect for this weather.

The veg starters consisted of Crispy Corn, Salsa Potatoes, Paneer Tikka, Masala Soya Chaap, Tandoori Aloo, and Churrasco Pineapple. The salsa potatoes were really crispy, and the churrasco pineapple was sweet and juicy, but the soya chaap was a bit bland. The non-veg starters had Amritsari Fish Tikka, Kasturi Chicken Tikka, Chatpate Mutton Seekh, Churrasco Chicken, and Chicken Balls in Hot Garlic Sauce. The fish was nice and flaky, and we loved the flavor of the marination on the kasturi chicken tikka. The mutton seekh was really juicy and nicely spiced, and the chicken balls were juicy and topped with a spicy and tangy sauce.

The main course section had Dal Makhani, Rajma Punjabi Masala, Sarson ka Saag, Punjabi Kadhi Pakora, Veg Jalfrezi, Khade Masale ka Pulao, Paneer Dhaniya Adraki, Pasta in Arrabbiata Sauce, Chili Garlic Noodles, and Vegetables in Manchurian Sauce. The dal was creamy, and the rajma was nice and spicy. The sarson ka saag tasted amazing with the fresh Makke ki Roti, white butter, and jaggery, and the Punjabi kadhi was nicely made. The non-veg section had Chicken Methi Masala, Shalgam Gosht, Murg Biryani, Sliced Fish in Schezwan Sauce, Chicken in Hot Garlic Sauce. The chicken methi masala was a very different and tasty dish, but our favorite of the lot was the shalgam gosht, which had a lovely sour, tangy, and spicy flavor.bbqc6Then we moved to the dessert section, which had a nice spread consisting of Ice Cream, Assorted Pastries, Gulab Jamun, Gajar ka Halwa, Chocolate Mud Pudding, Sevviyan, Chenna Pie, Assorted Mousse, and fresh fruit. The chenna pie had just the right amount of sweetness, and the chocolate pudding, slathered with hot chocolate sauce was simply divine.bbqc5Overall, the service and food were both very nice, and the price is certainly value for money!

Review: Jahanpanah

Review: Jahanpanah

The Jahanpanah brand, which brings to us delicious Awadhi dishes, started off with an outlet in Agra, and have now also opened up a delivery outlet at Gurgaon. I recently ordered a few dishes from their menu, and was really happy to see the way they had packed the gravy dishes in handis. This imparted the Chicken Jahanpanah a nice, earthy flavor. The chicken itself was nicely cooked and was coated in a thick, creamy, and subtly spiced rich gravy.

The Mutton Masala Lucknowi had small, succulent pieces of mutton in a thick, textural gravy with whole spices, and though the gravy was nicely flavored with spices, it was not overwhelming and was nicely balanced. A must-try dish here!

For the starters, we had ordered Hara Bhara Kebab, Chicken Potli, and Galawat Kebab. The hara bhara kebabs had a fresh flavor, and had finely chopped nuts in it for texture. The chicken potli, which is their invention, is a must-try dish. It consisted of juicy chicken chunks filled with gooey, melted cheese. However, the galawat kebab were a tad dry, and the texture could have been smoother.

The Shahi Tukda was nicely made. Overall, this place can certainly be tried, especially for their gravy dishes.
