Review: Me Kong Bowl

Review: Me Kong Bowl

Me Kong Bowl offers some delicious Asian food, delivered to the comfort of your homes. I recently ordered-in a few dishes, and was really happy with all the food. The delivery came on time, and the colorful boxes in which the food was packed were super cute.mekongbowl1The Chicken Dak Bulgogi had juicy chicken chunks cooked in Korean barbeque-style with bell peppers, carrots, and zucchini. The grill marks on the chicken looked great, and the chicken had a nice smoky flavor. The sauce coated on the chicken was tangy and delicious.

The Chicken Thukpa had chicken chunks and thin noodles, in a thick broth with crunchy vegetables, but the broth could have done with a touch more robustness in the flavor.

They also have the DIY concept wherein you can create your own bowl. I went with the chili garlic noodles with chicken, mushrooms, pak choi, and baby corn in honey sriracha sauce. I liked the way they had packed the dish- the chicken and the gravy came in a separate bowl, and the noodles can in another bowl, topped with the chosen vegetables. This ensured the noodles don’t get soggy and over-drenched in sauce, and the vegetables still retained their texture. The chicken dish had a lovely sweet-spicy sauce, and the noodles were really nicely made.mekongbowl2This place can definitely be tried for times when you’re craving some Asian food.

Review: Bbq Factory

Review: Bbq Factory

BBQ Factory offers the buffet concept with starters served on live grills on the table. But what’s really cool about the restaurant is that they offer different types of buffets- so you can go for one without starters, or can vary the size of your meal in terms of number of starters, number of main courses, etc. The restaurant also has a Kid’s Zone where children can play while you enjoy your meal.

We went for the Titanic dinner buffet which is their most lavish one, and we started with the live chaat counter, which had gol gappe and papdi chaat. The papdi chaat was nice and crunchy, but the water for the gol gappe was a bit too salty. The live station also had some steamed momos, which we relished with the spicy chutney. The soup counter had Tomato Basil and Lemon Coriander Soups, which were perfect for this weather.

The veg starters consisted of Crispy Corn, Salsa Potatoes, Paneer Tikka, Masala Soya Chaap, Tandoori Aloo, and Churrasco Pineapple. The salsa potatoes were really crispy, and the churrasco pineapple was sweet and juicy, but the soya chaap was a bit bland. The non-veg starters had Amritsari Fish Tikka, Kasturi Chicken Tikka, Chatpate Mutton Seekh, Churrasco Chicken, and Chicken Balls in Hot Garlic Sauce. The fish was nice and flaky, and we loved the flavor of the marination on the kasturi chicken tikka. The mutton seekh was really juicy and nicely spiced, and the chicken balls were juicy and topped with a spicy and tangy sauce.

The main course section had Dal Makhani, Rajma Punjabi Masala, Sarson ka Saag, Punjabi Kadhi Pakora, Veg Jalfrezi, Khade Masale ka Pulao, Paneer Dhaniya Adraki, Pasta in Arrabbiata Sauce, Chili Garlic Noodles, and Vegetables in Manchurian Sauce. The dal was creamy, and the rajma was nice and spicy. The sarson ka saag tasted amazing with the fresh Makke ki Roti, white butter, and jaggery, and the Punjabi kadhi was nicely made. The non-veg section had Chicken Methi Masala, Shalgam Gosht, Murg Biryani, Sliced Fish in Schezwan Sauce, Chicken in Hot Garlic Sauce. The chicken methi masala was a very different and tasty dish, but our favorite of the lot was the shalgam gosht, which had a lovely sour, tangy, and spicy flavor.bbqc6Then we moved to the dessert section, which had a nice spread consisting of Ice Cream, Assorted Pastries, Gulab Jamun, Gajar ka Halwa, Chocolate Mud Pudding, Sevviyan, Chenna Pie, Assorted Mousse, and fresh fruit. The chenna pie had just the right amount of sweetness, and the chocolate pudding, slathered with hot chocolate sauce was simply divine.bbqc5Overall, the service and food were both very nice, and the price is certainly value for money!

Review: Jahanpanah

Review: Jahanpanah

The Jahanpanah brand, which brings to us delicious Awadhi dishes, started off with an outlet in Agra, and have now also opened up a delivery outlet at Gurgaon. I recently ordered a few dishes from their menu, and was really happy to see the way they had packed the gravy dishes in handis. This imparted the Chicken Jahanpanah a nice, earthy flavor. The chicken itself was nicely cooked and was coated in a thick, creamy, and subtly spiced rich gravy.

The Mutton Masala Lucknowi had small, succulent pieces of mutton in a thick, textural gravy with whole spices, and though the gravy was nicely flavored with spices, it was not overwhelming and was nicely balanced. A must-try dish here!

For the starters, we had ordered Hara Bhara Kebab, Chicken Potli, and Galawat Kebab. The hara bhara kebabs had a fresh flavor, and had finely chopped nuts in it for texture. The chicken potli, which is their invention, is a must-try dish. It consisted of juicy chicken chunks filled with gooey, melted cheese. However, the galawat kebab were a tad dry, and the texture could have been smoother.

The Shahi Tukda was nicely made. Overall, this place can certainly be tried, especially for their gravy dishes.

Review: The Spice Lab

Review: The Spice Lab

The Spice Lab serves up some delicious Indian food, and I recently ordered-in some of their food. The food came nicely packed and was delivered on time.

The Bhutte De Kebab had a nice crunchy texture on the outside, while the inside was moist and slightly sweet, and had subtle spices. This was a really nice dish, and should be tried.

The Mutton Seekh Roll had juicy mutton seekh kebab, coated with green chutney and covered with a soft roti.spicelab1The Non-Veg Thali was packed nicely and had Dal Spice Lab, murgh makhan wala, chicken curry, lachcha parantha, raita, rice, and gulab jamun. The thali is more than sufficient for a person, and at Rs. 289, is very cost effective. The lachcha parantha was thin and crisp, the dal was creamy and luscious, the butter chicken was a bit too heavy on the cream, but the best part of the thali was the chicken curry. It had whole spices, lots of ginger and coriander, and was robust in flavor. The gulab jamun, however, was quite hard.

Overall, this place can certainly be tried.

Review: Kebab Xpress

Review: Kebab Xpress

Kebab Xpress is a north-Indian quick service restaurant chain serving vegetarian and non-vegetarian kebabs, kathi rolls, biryanis, and curries. Their food is hygienically prepared, tasty, and affordable.

I recently went to their Cyber Hub outlet, which has a nice set-up and the service is very prompt.kx3I had the Soya Crunchers, which had moist soya chop coated with a crunchy batter and sprinkled with a tangy masala. The texture of the soya was nice, and the contrast of the soft soya and the crunchy covering was great, but the soya chop itself could do with a bit more flavor.

The Non-Veg Kebab Platter had chicken tikka, chicken seekh, and toofani tangdi. The tangdi had well-cooked, nicely marinated with a tangy spice-mix, while the chicken tikka, was super flavorsome. The chicken seekh was very moist and subtly flavored.kx1The Non-Veg Meal is perfect for someone who wants a substantial but quick meal. It had butter chicken, dal delhicious, biryani, raita, lachcha parantha, and gulab jamun. The lachcha was thin, crispy and laden with butter. The dal was creamy and rich, and the butter chicken, though a bit too much on the sweet side, was quite nice. The biryani was well-flavored and the gulab jamun was soft and spongy.kx2Overall, a nice place for a quick meal that is easy on the pocket.

Review: Barbeque Nation: ‘The Year End Carnival’- a European Food Festival

Review: Barbeque Nation: ‘The Year End Carnival’- a European Food Festival

Barbeque Nation tries to keep its menu fresh, and they regularly have food festivals based on different themes. The latest one is the ‘The Year End Carnival’- a European Food Festival, which runs from 20 December to 7 January, and the restaurant is serving some dishes with European flavors. We went for this festival and were pleased to see the décor done up in the same theme.bbq1For starters, the vegetarian section had Burnt Garlic Grill Veg, Mango Mint Paneer, Italian Jalapeno Paneer, Honey Chili Barbeque Pineapple, as well as their regular items like Seekawri Kebab, Cajun Spice Potato, and Crispy Corn. Our favorites were the Seekawri Kebab, Honey Chili Barbeque Pineapple and the Crispy Corn.

The non-veg starters had a selection of Bbq Rosemary Chicken, Spanish Romesco Prawn, Dill Lemon Fish, Dohra Seekh Kebab, and Peri Peri Drumsticks. We liked the flavorful seasoning on the chicken, and the zingy and well-cooked fish. The dohra seekh kebab had a lovely texture and were really tasty.bbq2They also had live counters serving up Hot Dog, Raan, Keema Kaleji, and Pasta. While the pasta could have been much better, the raan and keema kaleji were super yummy.bbq4Moving to the main course, the vegetarian selection had Paneer Pasanda, Gobi Mussallam, Spinach and Corn Gratin, Subz Biryani, Yellow Dal, Veg in Chili Plum Sauce, Veg Singapore Noodles. The dal was really nice and home-style, and the paneer had a flavorsome gravy. The noodles and the Chinese veg dish were both nicely made. The non-veg side was no less, and had Chicken Biryani, Butter Chicken Masala, Mutton Handi Gosht, Chicken Tikka Lasagna, and Fish in Hot Garlic Sauce. The biryani was very flavorful, the mutton dish had juicy chunks of mutton in a spicy, robust gravy, and the chicken tikka lasagna was a nice fusion of Indian and Italian flavors.bbq3Making our way to the dessert section, we tried the Chocogranate Swiss Roll, Blueberry Pie, Plum Cake, Praline Gateaux, Cheesy Brownie, Shahi Tukda, Saffron Phirni, and Gulab Jamun, and of course, their kulfi station. We really liked this nice mélange of desserts, and they rounded off this lavish meal perfectly. Our favorites here were the blueberry pie and the gooey cheesy brownie.bbq5Overall, it was a pretty good experience, and the service was, as always, prompt and courteous.
