Review: Asian Nation

A brand new Pan-Asian delivery outlet, Asian Nation, has been making waves in South Delhi. Their packaging is simply top-notch. The food is delivered like a gift package- in cardboard boxes, sealed neatly to ensure zero spillage.

We tried the Thai Stir Fried Chicken, which had juicy chicken chunks in a sweet chili sauce, with lots of bell peppers, spring onions, and crunch from fried cashews. Though a tad greasy, the dish was full of flavor.

The Chicken Phanaeng Curry had their house-made secret creamy curry paste, which was smooth and delicious, with delicate flavors of coconut balanced with lemon grass and herbs. The mild and silky-smooth curry went perfectly with the fragrant steamed rice.

The Veg Pad Thai Noodles were again a great dish- the noodles were well cooked, and had a punch of flavor from the chili sauce, peanuts, and lemon juice. This dish is something that calls for repeats- our only qualm being that the noodles were a bit clumped together and did not look springy and light, though they tasted great.

Review: Ovenstory Pizza

Review: Ovenstory Pizza

Ovenstory is a new pizza delivery chain which has started with a bang in Delhi-NCR, with 18 outlets already. They offer 4 signature cheese bases- alive and hearty Peri peri; beautiful mellow roasted 4 bell pepper; hot chipotle; and el-classico- a classic cheese spread.

I tried the Gourmet Veggie Chipotle Pizza which had chipotle cheese and mozzarella cheese, topped with American corn, jalapenos, black olives, onions, and veg falafel. While the pizza was really flavorful and spicy, and the base was thin and well baked, the falafel was just a bit too dry. Also, the cheese and the toppings had slid off from the pizza base during the transit.

I also tried the Sicilian Red Velvet Dessert, which was a red velvet lava cake. It had a great consistency, and just oozed out the moment I dug into it, and was just liquid deliciousness inside. This lava cake should definitely be tried!

Review: Crazy Tawaz

Review: Crazy Tawaz

Crazy Tawaz is a delivery-only outlet offering tasty North Indian food, and their USP is that most of their dishes are cooked on the tawa, and they pride themselves in serving Indian food beyond the Tandoor and Kadhai.

We tried out a few items from the place and was really impressed. They have some really unique dishes as well, which are not normally found on menus of delivery joints, and all their food is delicious and reasonably priced.

The Tawa Paneer Kaleji, is their specialty, in which the texture and look of the paneer so closely resembled kaleji. The paneer was coated with a spicy onion mix and was quite flavorful.

The Chicken Pesto Tikka had succulent chunks of chicken coated in a creamy and vibrant herb marinade.

We also really enjoyed the Bhuni Boti Kali Mirch which had boneless, slow cooked lamb chunks, coated in a spicy marinade and finished with freshly ground black pepper. This dish really packed a punch, the only downside being that the mutton was just a tad chewy.

The Kaffir Lime Duck ke Parche was a really unique dish. It had juicy duck breasts marinated with kaffir lime leaves and galangal, and grilled on a tawa to get a crispy exterior. The flavors of the kaffir lime provided a nice vibrance to the dish, without being overpowering.

Moving on to the mains, I tried the Tawa Chicken Masala and the Dal Fry. The chicken masala dish had chicken on the bone cooked with chilies and fresh herbs. The gravy was thick and robust, but the chicken was a bit overcooked. The Dal Fry was simply delicious- it was tempered just adequately and was really nice and homely.

We had these dishes with Tandoori Roti, Lehsun Mirch Parantha, Butter Naan, and Lachcha Parantha, all of which were nicely made, but our favorite was the spicy lehsun mirch parantha.

But our favorite dish of the entire lot were the Tawa ke Buns. This dish consists of three different flavors of buns- spinach, beetroot and regular, stuffed with your choice of filling. We went with the Bhuna Murg Boti Masala filling which had succulent chunks of chicken, flavored with spices, mint chutney and onions. The buns were also really soft and fresh. This is one dish we will be ordering again and again.

Overall, this place does a really good job of offering some different kind of dishes, all of which are hearty and delicious!

Review: Napoli Pizza

Review: Napoli Pizza

Napoli pizza is a new addition to the pizza scene in the city, but what sets them apart is their unique preparation of Neapolitan pizzas. Neapolitan pizza crusts are one of the toughest to master, and they have really excelled at this pizza style. They have a short and crisp menu of about 10 different types of pizzas, so they are just focused on doing what they do best. The pizzas are all made in a handcrafted wood-fired oven and are just simply heavenly.

I ordered the Quattro Formaggi and the Nduja. The Quattro formaggi pizza had a tangy tomato sauce slathered on the base, topped with a combination of gooey cheese- fresh mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan, and dollops of ricotta cheese, which provided a nice sharpness to the pizza. The Nduja had chunks of the spicy and delicious pork sausage (which was clearly of superior with lots of fresh mozzarella and tomato sauce.

Both the pizzas had a divine crust- the base was thin and soft, and the crust was well-aerated and spongy, and really light to eat. The crust had those perfect black spots of charred dough, just like traditional Neapolitan pizza crusts are supposed to have.

Also, the pizzas were delivered piping hot and right on time. Yes, these are slightly on the expensive size, but their large size and their absolutely lip-smacking taste and superior quality, more than justifies the price point. Luckily, they are located really close to where I live, so I’m definitely going to be ordering from here quite often!

Review: Indian Saffron Co.

Review: Indian Saffron Co.

Indian Saffron Co. is a new delivery joint at Vasant Kunj, operating from 7pm to 3am, offering delectable North Indian and Mughlai food at the comfort of your homes.

Their packaging is absolutely top-notch. The dishes are all packed neatly in microwave-safe boxes and they black and gold branding they have used makes the bags and box sleeves look really elegant. They also sent lots of cutlery and tissues neatly sealed in pouches along with the food.

The Achari Paneer Tikka had soft pieces of paneer, coated with a tangy and delicious achari marinade. They had put slits in the paneer cubes so that the spices go inside, and the paneer is not bland. This was a really tasty dish.

The Dahi ke Kebab had hung curd mixed with capsicum and coriander coated with bread and fried. The coating was crisp and the filling was creamy, but there was too much bread compared to the amount of hung curd.

The Murg Tikka had juicy and succulent chicken pieces marinated in yogurt and chilies, and cooked to perfection in a tandoor. The marinade was spicy and tangy, and absolutely delicious.

Mutton is not easy to get right- it is often either under-cooked or too chewy. But they had cooked the mutton to perfection in the Mutton Burrah kebabs. It had succulent pieces of lamb marinated in yogurt and spices, and was literally falling off the bone. The spice mix on the mutton pieces was also nicely made and the flavors had seeped into the meat.

Coming to the main course, the Mutton Bhuna Gosht had perfectly cooked mutton again in a thick, robust gravy of onions, tomatoes, and spices. This dish is a must-have!

Chicken Wings Masala was a new dish for me, as I have never had wings in this form. Normally we associate chicken wings as a snack, doused with some sauce. But this rendition, with a gravy was novel and also quite nice. This gravy had a slight sweet-tangy tinge to it.

Coming to the vegetarian dishes, the Dal Makhani was thick and creamy and it was evident that it had been simmered for long on a slow fire, to give that smoky flavor.

Methi Chaman, which is their take on palak paneer, had a creamy, mildly spiced gravy of spinach and was topped with some cottage cheese. It had subtle flavors, and though was a bit too creamy for my liking, it could be appealing to some.

The Jeera Aloo had potatoes tossed in toasted cumin seeds and had extremely subtle flavors.

I enjoyed these dishes with Lachcha Parantha and Garlic Naan, both of which were thin and well-made.

For dessert, I tasted their Phirni, which was sent in a clay pot- the traditional way- and was well-made and not overly sweet.

So for the next time you want to order in some delicious North Indian food, Indian Saffron Co. should be tried!

P.S.: They are participating in the Grub Fest this weekend, so you can try out some of their delicacies there as well.

Review: PePizza

Review: PePizza

I recently came across a new pizza delivery brand- PePizza which delivers piping hot, delicious pizzas to our doorsteps round the clock, and decided to try them out. The best part is, even though they are located in Gurgaon, they deliver all over Delhi-NCR.

They have a range of gourmet pizzas on offer- some classic, and some really interesting and new flavor combinations (and even a range of dessert pizzas!). The pizzas come in a range of sizes- 8”, 10”, 12” and 15”.

I ordered the Garden Green Pizza and the Butter Chicken Pizza, both in 10” size. Though it is a long route from Gurgaon to South Delhi, especially with the maddening traffic, the pizzas were delivered on time and were still hot.

The Garden Green Pizza had a great thin crust, baked to perfection and was topped with loads of vegetables-butter sautéed baby corn, vinegar sautéed bell peppers and onions, zucchini, broccoli, and mushrooms, with a tangy tomato sauce and mozzarella. The vegetables were all cooked al dente, but could have just done with a bit more flavor. They had sent chili flakes and spice mix sachets with the pizzas, so this one did really need the spice mix.pepizza2

The Butter Chicken Pizza, however, needed no additional flavor, as it was great on its own. The well-baked crust was topped with loads of juicy chunks of butter chicken, coated in a tasty mix of mint, cilantro, ginger, garlic, and chili. The pizza was loaded with gooey mozzarella and was even drizzled with some butter chicken gravy, which gave the pizza more flavor and juiciness.

Overall, this place should certainly be tried for its wide variety of options, great pizzas, and efficient delivery!

Review: Cravity

Review: Cravity

Cravity is a quaint little café located in Hauz Khas, and stands out due to its bright pink door. The place specializes in desserts, but they also have a small but well-thought out and diverse global food menu, making it the perfect place to catch up with friends, read a book, or even bring in your laptop and get some work done. The well-lit, bright and elegant ambience with the nice upbeat vibe is complemented by the warmth and friendliness of the staff.

They also bake their own breads, and you can purchase some fresh whole wheat, multigrain, focaccia, or rye bread, or even go for some croissants. They use these freshly baked breads in their sandwiches as well, and we tried The Pasha, which had pita bread, stuffed with in-house hummus, mixed with some exotic vegetables grilled to perfection. The pita was soft and spongy, and the hummus had an amazing flavor, and the veggies in there provided a nice texture. The only thing we wish they would fix is the contrasting temperatures of the warm pita and the cold hummus.

Next, we had the Mama Rosa Pasta, which had perfectly cooked penne in a delicate mix of tomato and cream cheese sauce. The tanginess of the sauce was on-point, and the vegetables retained their crunch.

What blew us away was their Khao Suey, which is such a tough dish to pull off. The gravy was so perfectly balanced in its flavors, and it was scented beautifully with spices and lemongrass, and had the perfect consistency. It was served with the usual accompaniments- crispy noodles, lemon wedges, lemongrass, browned onions, browned garlic, and peanuts, which once added to the khao suey, make it simply perfect. This dish is a must-have here!

And we would say the same thing about their Bad Boy Burger, which has a house-made soft and fresh brioche bun with a filling of extremely juicy minced lamb, melting cheese and caramelized onions. The lamb gets its amazing flavor from being soaked overnight in orange juice and cognac, and cooked in a red wine bordelaise sauce. This burger will surely have you coming back for more.

We enjoyed these dishes with a couple of shakes: The Strawberry Overload Milkshake and the Banana Caramel Milkshake, which were both thick, creamy, and flavorful, and had the right amount of sweetness.

We also tried, and simply loved, the Cravity Hot Chocolate. It had a deep, dark chocolate flavor, and was not milky like most others. A cup of this is heaven during winters!

Now, moving on to their pièce de résistance- the desserts. We tried the Tarte Au Citron, which had a nicely-made, buttery tart shell, filled with tangy lemon curd, topped with piped lemon curd and torched meringue. The lemon curd was so vibrant and delicious, and the meringue was one of the best we’ve had.

The Laphroaig Macaron had the perfect texture- thin, crisp shell which was light as a feather inside, and the taste packed a punch of the whiskey.

But our favorite was the Beurre Sale au Chocolat, which played on the salted caramel and chocolate flavors- a match made in heaven. It had a dark chocolate fudgy brownie base, topped with a rich chocolate mousse, which had light and airy cream piped on top, drizzled with salted caramel sauce. It would be a crime to visit the place and not have this dessert!

So, ditch the diet and head to Cravity for a delicious meal followed by some heavenly desserts!
