Cravity is a quaint little café located in Hauz Khas, and stands out due to its bright pink door. The place specializes in desserts, but they also have a small but well-thought out and diverse global food menu, making it the perfect place to catch up with friends, read a book, or even bring in your laptop and get some work done. The well-lit, bright and elegant ambience with the nice upbeat vibe is complemented by the warmth and friendliness of the staff.
They also bake their own breads, and you can purchase some fresh whole wheat, multigrain, focaccia, or rye bread, or even go for some croissants. They use these freshly baked breads in their sandwiches as well, and we tried The Pasha, which had pita bread, stuffed with in-house hummus, mixed with some exotic vegetables grilled to perfection. The pita was soft and spongy, and the hummus had an amazing flavor, and the veggies in there provided a nice texture. The only thing we wish they would fix is the contrasting temperatures of the warm pita and the cold hummus.
Next, we had the Mama Rosa Pasta, which had perfectly cooked penne in a delicate mix of tomato and cream cheese sauce. The tanginess of the sauce was on-point, and the vegetables retained their crunch.
What blew us away was their Khao Suey, which is such a tough dish to pull off. The gravy was so perfectly balanced in its flavors, and it was scented beautifully with spices and lemongrass, and had the perfect consistency. It was served with the usual accompaniments- crispy noodles, lemon wedges, lemongrass, browned onions, browned garlic, and peanuts, which once added to the khao suey, make it simply perfect. This dish is a must-have here!
And we would say the same thing about their Bad Boy Burger, which has a house-made soft and fresh brioche bun with a filling of extremely juicy minced lamb, melting cheese and caramelized onions. The lamb gets its amazing flavor from being soaked overnight in orange juice and cognac, and cooked in a red wine bordelaise sauce. This burger will surely have you coming back for more.
We enjoyed these dishes with a couple of shakes: The Strawberry Overload Milkshake and the Banana Caramel Milkshake, which were both thick, creamy, and flavorful, and had the right amount of sweetness.
We also tried, and simply loved, the Cravity Hot Chocolate. It had a deep, dark chocolate flavor, and was not milky like most others. A cup of this is heaven during winters!
Now, moving on to their pièce de résistance- the desserts. We tried the Tarte Au Citron, which had a nicely-made, buttery tart shell, filled with tangy lemon curd, topped with piped lemon curd and torched meringue. The lemon curd was so vibrant and delicious, and the meringue was one of the best we’ve had.
The Laphroaig Macaron had the perfect texture- thin, crisp shell which was light as a feather inside, and the taste packed a punch of the whiskey.
But our favorite was the Beurre Sale au Chocolat, which played on the salted caramel and chocolate flavors- a match made in heaven. It had a dark chocolate fudgy brownie base, topped with a rich chocolate mousse, which had light and airy cream piped on top, drizzled with salted caramel sauce. It would be a crime to visit the place and not have this dessert!
So, ditch the diet and head to Cravity for a delicious meal followed by some heavenly desserts!
